Why It's the Right Time to Invest in a Hermès Birkin

Why It's the Right Time to Invest in a Hermès Birkin

Posted on March 17 2017

Gone are the days of investing your money to buy gold.

A luxury online retail called Baghunter did a comparison study of the three major investments in the world (S&P 500, gold, and Hermès Birkin bags) to measure which stands as the most valuable investment. Did you know what they found? Birkin is actually a better investment than gold! Yes, you read that right.

Compared to gold and S&P 500, Hermès Birkin bags never fluctuate and even increase in value at 14.2% annually, compared to gold's -1.5% and S&P's 8.7%.

"Hermès Birkin handbags (are) by far the least risky investment of the three. While economic factors affect the value of the S&P 500 and gold, the exclusivity of Hermes Birkin bags has seen them maintain and increase their value, even during times of recession," said Baghunter.

According to Time, the bags, which costs between $60,000 to $200,000, are made in limited numbers and are not advertised. Quartz attributes its astronomical prices to scarcity: waiting lists for new bags are six years.

The bag was conceived when actress Jane Birkin was on the same flight as Hermès’ boss Jean-Louis Dumas and complained about not being able to find a good leather weekend bag, added Time.

There's no need to add your name on the wait list, though.
